Spector Guitars a été fondée à Brooklyn, New York, en 1976 par Stuart Spector et Alan Charney. La marque s'est rapidement fait un nom et grâce au réseau mondial de revendeurs, la marque a touché l'or de la pop-culture en 1983, lorsqu'une basse blanche Spector NS-2 a été vendue à Sting, au début de la tournée Synchronicity de The Police.
